UNIVERSAL ANALOG HARDWARE TEST BENCH
Teaching basic Analog and Digital Electronics at undergraduate level consists of theory classes with hands-on-training conducted in an electronics laboratory equipped with Oscilloscopes, Function Generators and Regulated Power Supplies. Students are taught the characteristics of basic components like diodes, BJTs, FETs, OPAMPs and Digital devices. This project presents a micro-controller based Automatic-Test-Equipment (ATE) combining the functions of standard laboratory equipment, providing a Low-Cost Teaching-Aid for Basic Electronics.

Applications of a Reverse Biased Opto-Coupler
The PC817 is a very popular Opto-Coupler; the data sheet provides detailed information related to the digital applications of this device with the output transistor forward biased. This project idea proposes several novel analog circuit applications using the reverse biased characteristics of the output transistor.
The Figure below shows the experimental plot of Collector-Current IC versus Collector-Emitter voltage VCE for different values of Diode-current IF over a VCE range of ±2V. The forward characteristics show that the output transistor goes into saturation for IF > 0.3mA and the reverse characteristics show excellent low-gain transistor characteristics.
Analog applications are therefore possible using the reverse characteristics with the unique advantage that the equivalent base current provided by IF could be optoisolated

Based on the similarity between the HDD and a circular chart recorder:

Based on the similarity between the HDD and a circular chart recorder:
- Both have a circular platter which rotates at a predetermined speed
- While the HDD records data on the magnetic material of the platter the chart recorder writes on chart paper using a suitable marking mechanism
- The moving arm which carries the writing mechanism is operated in both cases by an electromechanical system
